Target Audience: Research

Our film fits the genre of british comedy, and has a certain aspect of romance. The film cannot be classed as a stereotypical rom-com, as it is similar to films such as: Run Fatboy Run and The Worlds End. A comedy, with a slight aspect of romance.

To identify our target audience, we must research similar films target audience.

Run Fatboy Run

In regards to gender, the film was more popular with females in regards to score, however more males voted the film. Therefore, the male audience is predominant. In regards to age, 18-29 is by far the most popular age. In terms of specefic gender/age, male aged 18-29 was the most popular.

At Worlds End

Similar to the last film, the film was most popular with a male audience. In regards to age, again, the most voted age was 18-29. Finally, specifically age and gender, the most voted was male aged 18-29.

Keeping Mum

The film, like the others, was most popular amongst the male audience. In terms of age, 18-29 is still the most prominent. However, other ages are also highly voted for. For example: both male and female aged 30-44 was a highly voted category, receiving over 6500 votes. Gender is also much closer for this film: Male 14736, Female 5076.

Love Actually

With a change of genre, you can see that the female vote has massively increased. Male is still the dominant vote, however i believe this is probably due to the votes being made online. The rom-com genre is more popular with female audiences, and mostly couples. The age is still the same, most popular amongst 18-29 year olds. Although, there were more votes for the older ages such as 30-44.

Four Weddings and a Funeral

In regards to gender, the film was more popular with females in regards to score, however more males voted the film. Therefore, the male audience is predominant. In regards to age, 30-40 is the most popular age. This is the only change in regards to age.

Project Update 6: Casting Plan

22/10/2013

We plan to begin casting this week, or throughout half term. We plan to film all of the interviews were possible. We will us the school meeting room for each casting interview.

Logo Inspiration: Production Company

Last year our production company was an independent british studio, as this suited our film. This year, our film is a blockbuster. However, it is still a british film.

(Last years production company)

Our logo this year must have connotations of a blockbuster company, and must also be appealing to our target audience.

Here are some inspirations:

Studio for 'Love Actually'

Studio for 'Four Lions'

Poster Inspiration 'Comedy': Dinner for Shmucks

'Dinner for Schmucks' is a comedy film that has some aspects of relationships. The film is American, however for the purposes of a poster, our film is relatable. The simplistic design and style of photography is appealing and i can see this type of design transferring to our idea.

Poster Inspiration 'Romantic Comedy': Valentines Day (2010)

This film followed a generic
romantic comedy design idea. Many of the films main characters are shown on the poster, in identical squares. There names are also placed in some of the squares in conventional colours of a rom-com, such as blue and pink.

If our film was to follow this design, it would look like this:

Genre Conventions: Every Romantic Comedy Ever

Film Name: Survey

We conducted a survey, asking people from our target audience, which film title they preferred. The results were clear. Plus One ('Plus1') was by far the most popular.

Naming Characters: Stoner Male Friend

Our name for the character was originally 'Green Alan'. However, we were advised that this name may not be suitable for our target audience (Male and Female, mainly couples, aged between 16-35). We brainstormed some ideas, and this was the product:

To be sure, we conducted a survey, asking people from our target audience which name was there favorite. These were the results:

Naming Charecters: Older Brother

Initially, Henry's older brother was going to be called Gary, or 'Gaz'. However, we decided we did not like this name, as it was too cliched and over used in amateur and poorly made productions.
